Dear Readers,
We are delighted to present to you the 2nd issue of the internationally published maga-
zine vascular professional established in 2021!
To go deeper into the field of innovative minimally invasive treatment methods we offer
you exciting original articles, which give insight into very specific aspects of the varico-
se vein treatment, in this issue. The experiences shared here come directly from well-
known medical offices and clinics of highly educated physicians, who have been working
in the field of phlebology and vascular surgery for decades.
Thus, our first contribution is the very personal report by Dr. Petar Dragić from Serbia.
Over the past years he realized in his EndoVenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) treatments that
it is important to consider the thickness of the vein wall as well as the vein diameter.
As a result he invented the treatment approach known as Ultrasound Guided Laser
Ablation (UGLA).
Then we have a very instructive article by Dr. Junichi Utoh from Japan which was first
presented at the 21st Virtual Annual Meeting of the European Venous Forum on 26th
June 2021. He conducted a study with two other collegues over two years with 1,489 pa-
tients with GSV insufficiency, who were treated with EVLA. To reduce nerve injuries sig-
nificantly, a special laser fiber with a very small fiber diameter was used with very good
treatment results.
Dr. Karsten Hartmann from Germany held a presentation at the 27th Bonner Venentage
DIGITAL (Vein Days in Bonn, Germany) from 30th April - 1st May 2021 about the clinical
prognosis of branch varicosis after laser ablation of the truncal vein. The critical aspect
has always been the problem of possible recurrences and recanalizations after leaving
insufficient side branches near the crosse. This was published in the German professio-
nal magazine „vasomed“ Nr. 2 on 15th March 2021. vascular professional got the license
for the English translation and is happy to introduce to you the interesting results.
